THE BEGINNING SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

WHEATHER POLICY

MEDICAL FORMS and Policies
At the time of entrance ALL children must submit an up-to-date record of immunizations; physical verification is required. This record is due before the first day of school. We will photocopy and return the original. Medical or religious exemptions must be documented. Children in kindergarten and first grade need a physical examination - pre-schoolers do NOT. Deadline for the physical exam is the last school day in October of the current year.

HEALTH POLICIES
GENERAL ILLNESS: Children should not be in school if they are not feeling well and complaining of symptoms of illness. Once these students board a school bus and/or arrive in their classrooms they may have already contributed to the spread of contagious infection or disease.
ELEVATED TEMPERATURE: A child should not be sent to school until his/her temperature has been normal for 24 hours.
NAUSEA OR VOMITING: If a child has vomited during the evening, night or prior to coming to school, he/she should not be sent to school.
MEDICATION: Medication may be given in school under the following conditions:
1. You must bring in a doctor’s order (even for over-the-counter medication).
2. Have the medicine in its original container.
3. Have a responsible adult bring it to the office.
If your child is required to take medication during the school day, please send the medication and directives to the School Office. You will be asked to fill out a form giving the School permission to give the medication to your child.

SAFETY CONCERNS
Safely and smoothly dropping your child off at Thevenet requires a basic understanding of some procedures designed to avoid difficulties, delays or accidents. First, our road is narrow; at certain points only one-way traffic is possible. At other points the road is wide enough for two cars to pass, if each courteously stays on his/her half. Don’t hurry. Be extremely careful in the vicinity of the buildings.
One area needing great caution is between Welch Hall and the entrance to the classroom in the Retreat House. Proceed very slowly. There have been some narrow escapes when cars passed a bus unloading children; also be aware of children arriving in private conveyances. THE LAW CONCERNING STOPPING BEHIND A SCHOOL BUS, WHEN IT IS FLASHING ITS LIGHTS OR HAS THE STOP SIGN EXTENDED FROM THE BUS, APPLIES ON THEVENET PROPERTY.
At the STOP sign, arriving cars have the right of way. Several accidents have occurred at the entrance to the property.
When traveling east or west on County Route 105, it is important to give signals in plenty of time and to enter the property carefully and slowly. Assume that someone is trying to leave the property.
Do NOT park in drop-off areas; this snarls up the flow of traffic and creates a potential safety hazard. When you leave your car, even for a few minutes, be sure to park in the designated area and turn off the ignition. If a traffic jam should develop, please be patient. The children’s safety is our one concern.
Please note that the Health and Safety department has notified us that NO CARS ARE TO PARK NEAR THE MAIN BUILDING. This area is an emergency vehicle lane ONLY. The orange cones have been placed in that lane to remind everyone about this regulation.
We would appreciate your phoning if you observe what you feel might be an unsafe condition. Please pass these recommendations along to baby-sitters and other drivers.
